《Someone Like You》的創作靈感來自於Adele Adkins自身的一段破碎戀情，歌曲中講述的是她慢慢接受並開始走出這段戀情。Adele Adkins在聽說前男友結婚的消息後寫下了這首歌曲，並用木吉他作為樂器完成了歌曲的初始版本，而歌曲的最終版本是以鋼琴作為伴奏。
